| Note* | John Edward Popp, the son of Ferdinand and March Schneider Popp was born on March 17, 1896 in Nada, Texas. At the age of 8, he, along with his parents, brothers and sisters moved from the farm where he was born to various other homes until they moved into the two story home which he had admired so many times as a young boy. His boyhood years were spent going to school and working on the family farm. As a young man he worked long hours in the cotton and corn fields, hay meadows, making hay and feeding the farm animals, which were used to work the fields and as food for the dinner table. On September 19, 1917 at the age of 21, John entered the Army as a private and served in Battalion E, 13th Field Artillery in the battles at Aisner Marne, St. Mihiel and, Meuse-Argonne in France. He then served in the army of Occupation in Germany until his honorable discharge on July 8, 1919. After coming home from the service he lived and worked on his father's farm. On January 30, 1923 he married Emelie Heine, the daughter of Paul and Maria Wanja Heine. They moved to and bought the same farm on which he was born. John, Emelie, and their children lived and worked on this same farm until his death on February 9, 1974. John is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Nada. | |

| Note* | Ferdinand, Jr., the eldest son of Ferdinand Popp, Sr. and Mary Schneider Popp, married Anna Staff on February 7, 1911. Seven children were born to this union. Ferdinand and Anna rented their first farmland from the Popp homestead and Margaret, August, and Bernard were born at this site. In 1918, Ferdinand and Anna bought a one hundred-acre farm three miles west of Nada from the John Schneiders. Leontina, Joseph, Lawrence, and Marcella were born on this farm. Here the family worked together to support the family from the land. Ferdinand and the boys worked the land with horses and the whole family worked together picking cotton, pulling corn, baling hay, and gathering all the other crops. The family raised their own vegetables, chickens, pigs, and they fished along the creek that ran through their property The Catholic religion was always a point of focus in this family-a family that worked together, prayed together and relaxed together. This Christian family atmosphere yielded three religious vocations: Ferdinand and Anna gave their oldest son Bernard and two youngest daughters: Leontina and Marcella, to the service of the Church. The other four children married: Margaret married Gustav Swoboda, Augusta married George Gerberman, Joseph married Bernice Leopold, and Lawrence married Clara Leopold. These children continued the Christian family spirit in their families. One son, Lawrence, preceded his parents in death. Both Ferdinand and Anna lived to be 87 years old and died within 16 months of each other. | |
