| Note* | Alvin Rudolph Winkler, Sr., the younger son of Joseph and Louisa Heinrich Winkler, was born June 14, 1914 in High Hill, Texas. His early childhood and youth centered around St. Mary's Church and Scho ol in High Hill. On September 4, 1939, Alvin married Adelheid (Adie) Schmidt, daughter of Franz and Sofia Demel Schmidt of High Hill, Texas, at St. Mary's Church in High Hill. During their marri ed life, they lived in Smithville, Texas, from 1939 to 1941 where Alvin operated a farm for two years. In 1942, they moved to High Hill where Alvin operated a cotton gin from 1941 to 1979 and managed the Farmers Coop Store in Schulenburg, Texas, from 1951 to 1979 when he retired. Adie was busy in her role as mother and housewife. She also participated in church functions and was docent for to urs of St. Mary's Church on the Schulenburg Painted Church tour. She enjoys quilting and helping other people. In 1976, both Alvin and Adie received the Archbishop Francis J Furey Medal for their charitable works in the parish and community. | |
