| Biography* | Margaret Mary's childhood and youth centered around St. Joseph Church and School in Slaton, Lubbock County, Texas. She attended St. Joseph School and in 1951 graduated from Cooper High School, in Woodrow, Lubbock County, Texas. Shortly after her marriage, Thomas was drafted into the service and they spent the next two years in Alabama. Upon their return to Texas, they moved to a farm near Wilson to farm the land that they acquired. They raised 12 children on this farm. Thomas did carpentry work and Margaret spent her time as a homemaker, gardening and preserving fruits and vegetables for her family. She was also active in the Altar Society of St. Joseph Church. As the children became more independent, Margaret took a seasonal office support position at the cotton gin in Wilson, working there for several years. Later, she searched for a permanent position and was employed by a dress factory in Slaton. She then took a position as a Pharmacist Assistant at the local pharmacy, working there for eight years. | |
