Father Andreas Billimek b. 1771, d. 1847
Mother Rosina Haas d. 1852

Note*Andreas and Anna Billimek, together with their six children sailed from Bremen, Germany on September 15, 1860 on the ship, Jeverlin, and arrived in Galveston, Texas on November 19, 1860. Ferdinan
d Billimek, told the story of the family being so overjoyed at the first sighting of land off the shore of Galveston, however, a sudden calm developed and then a gulf storm suddenly materialized, blow
ing them back out to sea. By the time the storm was over, it had caused them a three-week delay in reaching port.

They traveled by ox-cart to the settlement known as Dubina where th
ey greeted other families from Austria who had arrived several years earlier. Among there were Valentin Haidusek, Valentine Holub and Joseph Kahlich. After resting a few days, they proceeded on to t
he community of High Hill.

These early pioneers were the first settlers in High Hill of the Catholic faith, and the story is told that they were so saddened by the fact that this fir
st Christmas in their new land they were unable to celebrate Christmas church services in their accustomed manner. They heard of a Catholic settlement with a resident priest about 30 miles way calle
d Frelsburg, so some of the men, Anton Bednarz, Franz Wick, John Schilhab and Andreas Billimek walked there, arriving in time to assist with the celebration the Christmas service. They succeeded in g
etting the priest, Father Gury, to come to High Hill for occasional Masses. Since there was no chapel available, he said Mass in people's homes. The first Mass was supposed to have been said in the
log cabin of Andreas Billimek.

In 1861 Andreas Billimek bought two tracts of land in Fayette County on the waters of the Navidad River, 13 or 14 miles south of La Grange; one of which c
ontained 190 acres, the other tract contained 63 1/3 acres. He purchased this land from Jonathan C Farley for $1320.00, plus a promissory note for $200 at the interest rate of 2% per annum. A copy o
f this deed, #6718, is on file in the County Clerk's office.

Note*Ferdinand Billimek, the youngest son of Andreas Billimek, was a very close friend of John Woellert, and was further bonded by the marriage of John's only son, Rudolph, to Ferdinand's daughter, Mari
e. In 1900, Ferdinand Billimek and his family, John and Theresia Woellert, and Rudolph and Marie Woellert left High Hill to begin another home in what is today called Poth, Texas, formerly known as M
arcylina Switch, Wilson County, Texas.

Ferdinand Billimek and John Woellert were approximately the same age and played together as children when their parents, Josef Woellert and And
reas Billimek, came to High Hill. Both families came from Neudek, Moravia, Austria. Another factor adding to the close relationship of these two was that Ferdinand's older brother, Joseph, married J
ohn Woellert's sister, Ludmilla.

In the fall of 1900, John and Rudolph Woellert and Ferdinand Billimek began looking for land in other parts of Texas. They traveled to Fisher and Sc
urry Counties, but dislike the areas because of the colder climate. They heard that a banker in Gonzales, named R S Dilworth, owned a great deal of land in Wilson County. Immediately the trio visite
d the area and found it to be in the heart of the finest farming land in Texas. The land was available in fairly large tracts and reasonably priced.

Rudolph now 22 years old, contac
ted Mr. Dilworth and purchased 500 acres of land at $5.00 per acre. The land was in a farming community known as Sunnyside, located five miles north of the present town of Poth. In October of 1900,
John and Theresia Woellert, Rudolph and Mary Woellert, and Ferdinand and Aloisia Billimek with sons Eddie, Charles, Henry, Louis, and daughter Pauline, left High Hill for their new home in Wilson Coun
ty.

John, Rudolph, and Ferdinand came to Wilson County on horseback and buggy, bring their few cattle and household belongings. The women and children traveled by train. As soon as th
ey arrived, they purchased an old two-room Lutheran Church building for $150.00, where all three families lived for three months while they were building their new homes.
