| Note* | Jacob Pagel, Sr., 79, prominent retired early-day merchant of this city, succumbed to a lengthy illness Sunday in a Gainesville Hospital. He had been in ill health since an operation for a kidney a ilment 18 months ago and complications developed causing his death. Funeral services were held in Sacred Heart Church Tuesday morning with Rev. Herman Laux, pastor, officiating at the requiem mass and burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased, Paul and Michael Luke, Jerome and Maurice Pagel, Charles Pagel and John Janicki. Mr. Pagel was born in Ph iladelphia, Pennsylvania in June 1868, a sone of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Pagel, and as a lad moved with them to Loretto, Tennessee, where he grew to manhood assisting his father on the family farm. In the late 1880's he set out for himself, going to Helena, Arkansas, where he went into the furniture business. It was there that he met Miss Annie Haverkamp to whom he was married in August, 1891. They came to Muenster in December 1908, and in January 1909 he went into the grocery and dry goods business, buying the merchandise of Fipp and Andress as his initial stock. He continu ed active in business until 1938 when he sold out to his son Jacob Pagel Jr. and retired. Mrs. Pagel died in 1934. Survivors are two sons, Jacob Jr. of Muenster and Henry of Muskogee, Oklahom a; one daughter, Mrs. Henry Luke, Muenster, and ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One son, Charles Pagel, preceded him in death in 1935. | |
